In this workshop, we explore the traditional technique of metal raising. Using copper sheet, we form a vessel by hammering and annealing the material. As we shape the metal, it hardens and becomes brittle – to continue working, we must restore its flexibility by heating it with a torch or fire. In this rhythm of hammering and softening, a flat disc slowly becomes a three-dimensional object.

• Step-by-step guidance from metalsmith Laurenz Stockner
• Hands-on work with copper sheet, fire, and traditional tools
• Time for focus, physical work, and quiet creation
• An object that grows slowly – shaped by your hands and your pace

All materials are provided. No prior knowledge or experience is required. The workshop is open to anyone interested in working with metal.

About the Artist
Laurenz Stockner is an award-winning metalsmith based in Brixen, Italy. His work combines ancient techniques with contemporary form. He was honored with the Bavarian State Prize and the Grassi Prize and was a finalist for the Loewe Craft Prize in 2018. His pieces are part of international collections.

We start on Friday at 4:00 PM with a practical introduction to tools and materials. After the communal dinner at 6:00 PM, Laurenz will present his unique working methods in a lecture. On Saturday, we will start at 10:00 AM and will only be interrupted by delightful meals and pleasant conversations until Sunday afternoon.
