Embossing and shaping a vessel from copper

Forming vessels through 'embossing' or 'raising' is an ancient technique of metal shaping. We work with copper sheet, which is molded into three-dimensional shapes through hammering and annealing. During the process, the material hardens, becomes brittle, and needs to be periodically returned to its originally relaxed crystalline structure. This is achieved through annealing with fire or flame. In the alternating rhythm between hammering and annealing, a flat disk transforms into a three-dimensional object.
