Relief, intaglio and planographic printing with Ulrike Viola Henrich
Linocut, drypoint etching and monotype - for beginners and advanced students
In this workshop, we'll delve into the world of artistic printmaking techniques. Relief printing, intaglio printing, planographic printing, and stencil printing, as well as their hybrid forms, have been recognized as practical activities in the nationwide register of intangible cultural heritage since 2018. Under the guidance of designer and printmaker Ulrike Viola Henrich, we'll learn the fundamentals of relief printing, intaglio printing, and planographic printing, and experiment with various techniques in small formats.
In relief printing, we'll create linocuts – from sketching and carving to printing on paper. We'll experiment with ink application and practice creating multi-color prints. In intaglio printing, we'll explore the drawing technique of drypoint etching: using fine lines and hatching, we'll etch motifs into plexiglass plates and then print them onto handmade paper.
Ulrike will also introduce monotype printing – a planographic printing technique in which spontaneous ink applications and layering create unique individual images. It's always about the joy of experimentation, seeing and feeling the material, and discovering your own form of expression.
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced printmakers.
