Calligraphy and paper with Birgit Nass
Paper fabric and writing
In this weekend workshop with calligrapher and book artist Birgit Nass, we will combine paper design, calligraphy, and bookbinding techniques to create a unique artist's book. Using various papers, cardboard, wire, thread, and other materials, we will create textile, woven structures that serve as the foundation or a starting point for calligraphic compositions. The combination of paper weave and freehand lettering allows for new visual approaches – playful, experimental, and poetic. At the end, we will assemble the resulting sheets and objects into a book with a woven spine. The artist's book grows with each step – a one-of-a-kind piece that unites material experience, artistic writing, and traditional bookbinding. The course is open to beginners and advanced participants alike.
What you can expect:
Experimental work with different papers and materials
Introduction to and further development of calligraphic techniques and freehand lettering textures
Creation of an individual artist's book with a woven spine
Personal guidance from Birgit Nass
Materials
Basic materials and tools are available for loan. You are welcome to bring your own favorite papers, tools, and paints. A small materials shop is also available.
